Well CGTs are known for being dangerous. I doubt it was an engine thing. There aren't enough cases of CGTs catching fire (insert Ferrari joke here) or engine failure that I've heard of. I think they decided to give it some gas and didn't realize the speed they were going. They tried to slow down but something went wrong. Maybe the back end lost grip or they clipped a curb.

They're probably right though. It doesn't make sense that someone would make a small mistake while driving a notorious widow-maker of a car and run into a tree. Way more likely that someone wanted to murder a really nice guy and avid philanthropist who's been in some corny but beloved movies.

The conspiracy fodder is always there, considering that given an arbitrarily complex system, you can find any pattern in it you wish.
The only thing is, the various systems seem to be getting more complex, and considering the past year for reveals, the patterns may not be untrue. But not in this case.
